You’re up for more shopping, but your bedroom closet is already packed with clothes. Luckily, you can effortlessly make room in your closet by donating the items you no longer put on.

Clearing out old clothes not only makes more space for the newest trends, but it also helps you keep your closet organized and neat.

1.    Do a clothes audit

To start with, go through your closet and take out all the items that you haven’t worn in the past few months.

You will come across some items that you might only wear for functions, like a fancy cocktail dress or a two-piece suit but it’s alright to keep those items.

Clothes that are fitting for various occasions but you never seem to wear are the items you need to say goodbye to.

2.    When to donate

If you have a blouse that doesn’t fit you anymore, a dress you feel doesn’t flatter you and a jacket that no longer fits the trend are definitely the types of clothing you have to donate. Simply you can also donate the clothes in your closet that you don’t like anymore.

When to toss

If a t-shirt is faded or gives out bad stain that won’t go off even after washing, toss it. Clothes that are damaged, ripped and overused are not suitable for donating, and most of all the stores will anyway throw them out.

Going through your closet and getting rid of the clothing you no longer wear is a very good practice to follow once in a while.

No one likes an unorganized closet. Sorting through your clothes may even help you come across pieces you assumed were missing. These tips will guide you through the procedure.

3.    Where to donate

Finally, where should you donate your clothes in Sri Lanka? You can choose whether you want to donate your clothes to community groups, charities or thrift stores, resale shops.

Here are a few organizations that accepts clothing donations to help the disadvantaged communities in Sri Lanka;

  • Alittle Foundation
  • Kind hearted Lankans

Some organizations like “Alittle” have a free home collection service to collect clothes, shoes, coats, bedding and linen at your doorstep. All you got to do is, just drop them a message and they will be right at your doorstep.

If you think somebody can be satisfied from your clothing, donate them instead of throwing them out.
